Pink Salmon
« on: September 13, 2014, 12:49:12 PM »

Lots of pinks by the Cloverland Powerhouse.  Most guys are casting pink Swedish Pimples and doing well.  I painted a beat up bladebait pink and gave it a try.  Caught 6 in half an hour.  Everyone wanted to see what I was using and asked where I got it and if they could buy the one I had.  Had to tell them NO.  The bait it a prototype that is not on the market.  The paint job was simply nail polish.  Going to try a few unpainted baits to see if its the color and vibration thats the trigger or if it's vibration alone.  I've never painted them for walleyes, just plain lead and either a gold or silver blank.

I'd be interested in what you find to be your conclusion because I have pink nail polish in my house that I could totally use on some of my spinners :)

It's strange that pink salmon really like pink baits, out produces most other colors.  I have had really good success for walleyes with pink husky jerks and pink beads on harnesses at times.  Tried silver and caught 0.  Tried gold and caught 1.  Went back to the pink and caught 3 more.  Spent an hour there.

It's funny how that works. I'm always afraid to experiment with new colors I always just want to stick with the ones that I've had good luck with in the past...

I also have favorite colors, but through experience I've found that walleyes at least are often particular to a certain color on different bodies of water.  It's not always about the forage base either.  Lake Erie for one, seems to be about the goofy custom paint jobs.
