General Fishing / Long time no see
« on: May 21, 2017, 10:55:14 PM »
Life got busy and I'll admit I've neglected the site past couple years.
I'm happy to see it's still alive and active.   I'm getting married in October and I'm still out there fishing !!   Here's a bit of fish porn and I plan to be more active again

Opening Saturday night of April this year

Bass last September

Lower Peninsula Fishing / Chx county: Susan lake
« on: January 31, 2016, 04:08:43 PM »
Decided to brave the rain today And drill some holes in the ice.  I setup tipups and jigged tungsten jigs fire tiger was all I got bites on.   I did a bit of hole hopping but I left the tip ups in 12' of water 4' off bottom.  I had two flags all day and neither had fish on them

Couldn't get into any gills either (damn I need a flasher).

I did get into some perch right on bottom on 10' water but they were all dinks :/

Caught about dozen those. Zero keepers

General Fishing / Leaders for pike
« on: January 30, 2016, 05:44:55 PM »
Okay I'm curious to get some opinions from some icefishing members here about those damn pike.  What type of leader materiAl do you prefer for tipup fishing? Steel, flouro, mono or braid.  I'm assuming most are steel / flouro.

What pound test do you prefer if flouro?

How long of a leader do you use on a tipup?

I'm using 20lb flouro and it's going pretty strong.  I'm finally feeling confident going this route instead of steel. What's your guys thoughts if any?

I'll get some pictures up soon, gotta love flag up!

Been a bit since I posted. Fishing has been pretty good so far off of the Lake Michigan pier.  Nice amounts of walleye have been caught. The bonus this season is the lakers we are getting.  I was targeting walleye on bottom add midnight and hooked into five lakers. Pretty fun times

General Fishing / Frustrated!!
« on: May 03, 2014, 02:14:35 AM »
Pier fishing tonight just pissed me off.  I could not get those walleye to hit anything!!! I tryed light colored jigs dark colored jigs. Every other type of jig. I tryed every stick bait I had. I threw spoons at them they were just not biting. There was no current and the barometric pressure was way down tonight.  Its frustrating when I shine the water with my flash light and it just reflects eyes all over.  4 hours till 2am and the pressure is still decreasing.  Sometimes you just can't win.

End rant

Lower Peninsula Fishing / Saturday brookies
« on: April 29, 2014, 12:19:22 PM »
Well it was a beautiful Saturday but boy was the water cold. I couldn't catch any brookies of size and the water was really high and fast.

We still enjoyed the day and heard lots of grouse drumming.

I'm on the left. We had a great day I'll be back out Saturday!

Lower Peninsula Fishing / River clean ups
« on: October 11, 2013, 11:17:00 AM »
This past salmon season I noticed an unusual amount of trash on a lot of our local rivers. I've decided its time to represent the sportsmans we are and take care of our local rivers.  A lot of these rivers already have groups that clean up and do annual cleans. It's time some of is sportsman carry the weight of the rest of us.  I myself will be walking wha local rivers we I can and cleaning whT I can. I encourage anyone to help that would like too.  Private msg me for times thank you

General Fishing / Stinger hooks?
« on: June 02, 2013, 04:57:44 PM »
Lately I've been getting bites on the tails of my jigs by walleye, real light biters. I've been thinking of making some trailer/stinger hooks. I know we got some talented men here so any tips?  I was just gonna start simple some mono small hook with a clinch knot to the jig hook. Any ideas?

Lower Peninsula Fishing / Charlevoix report
« on: May 27, 2013, 03:11:31 PM »
Past 2 weeks charlevoix channel has been flooded with walleye. Several people taking home limits everyone's catching them. Walleye are being caught on 3/8-1oz jigs dependent on current. Almost anyone white jigs are working.  Also rapalas are a hot ticket with 3-4 splits hits 2' above swivel.  Just before sunset some smallies being caught. Best time for eyes have been 9:30 -  1200. Plenty of fish all night.
