Those bass are up there looking for baitfish on the surface would be my guess.  Try a whopper plopper or a jitterbug or something like that and bring It from shore out over the drop off.

Tried another new lake last night, during which that front came through. When I started, it was low 80's. When I left it was 65. Fortunately this lake was less than 20 acres, so I was able to manage the wind OK. I have never seen a more bizarre bottom as I saw in this natural lake! It was more like a reservoir. I'd be in 19-20', and two kicks of my swim fins later, I'd be in 4' with heavy weeds, and it wasn't like this in just one small area. Another weird thing is that I marked a ton of big marks (bass, I'm sure) only 4-7' down in 20' of water. Never saw that before, although I think this was occurring near those sharp breaks. Any thoughts on that? It was generally quite slow, with action improving around 6:45 or so. The bluegills and crappies were rather small, but I did land a 16" largemouth. Definitely worth the trip. Next year I'm going with larger minnows exclusively (small minnows under the slip bobber last night). I did very poorly with leeches.

Here's hoping the rain of the previous two days and cooler temperatures bring in some salmon for you guys!

One of these days I have to get with you and take a Shadow Rap lesson. I know you go real slow with it. I've had no luck with it.

I'm not able to get up there before the season closes. Probably will next year, as my wife and I are getting a second car soon. This is my favorite time to fish them.

Went again after work.  Fishing by 8.

Hooked a big salmon right off the bat.  Lost It.  0 for some number this year...

Donated a $9 Shadow Rap Shad to a stupid little pike that was auditioning for the trapeze act at the circus with his ďIím going to spend the next minute of my life in the air instead of in the waterĒ antics.

Sirens went off a few times and they changed the floodgate pattern.  Moved to capitalize.  Was rewarded with 4 nice eaters that I put in the cooler...

Husky Jerk HJ 12, crawled as slow as I could and get It to wiggle, silver.

That Zebco is a good indicator of where I am walking out to fish where there is some current from the floodgates.  Straight out from that sign a way It goes from 2 feet to 3 feet to too deep to walk out any further.

I generally go out about as far as I can without getting beyond waist deep.

Got to the river about 10:30 pm after work.

Water is up a bit and there is some debris, but not horrible by any means.

Smacked a beautiful walleye in my first cast with a silver/black Rapala Shadow Rap just crawled along with the current.

Didnít get another bite on that presentation so I switched It up and the pike were happy to oblige.  All pike came on a Shadow Rap Shad (color didnít seem to matter but most of them were on Halloween pattern) just twitching It an inch or so under the surface.
