General Fishing / Been a While
« on: September 30, 2015, 09:44:40 AM »
Sorry guys, it's been a bit.  With the passing of my wife things have been kind of out of sorts but as we all know things turn around eventually.  I have managed to fish quite a bit and actually won an event this year.  It's been tough not having my partner in the boat as well as in life.  I'll keep you posted as I get reacquainted with the Charlevoix area.

Well I'll be relocating to Charlevoix by the end of the month.  There's alot more opportunities to fish in the area at least.  Maybe I'll even target some of those "Green" fish

Upper Peninsula Fishing / Munoscong Bay 2
« on: January 26, 2015, 11:04:32 AM »
Fished Munoscong on Thursday and Friday.  Thursday evening I was trying a new bait.  Moonshine Lures Shiver minnow.  The fish loved it.  However I had over a dozen fish come off but I did manage to land two nice eyes.  Switched the bottom treble out for a slightly larger one and solved the problem for Friday.  Caught a limit in just over an hour.  I didn't lose a single fish.  I was able to drive the truck out to my prefered area, there is over two feet of ice.  It's an interesting place to fish since the water depth is only around 4 feet.  Saw a post earlier about adding a stinger to rapala type jigging lures.  I have tried this but I seemed to foul hook alot of fish.

Walleye and perch fishing has been decent.  People are now driving vehicles on the ice.  If you are unfamiliar with the area ask someone.  Mainly for the sake of safety.  Good access is located at Dan's resort near Pickford.

General Fishing / Last Trip
« on: December 07, 2014, 01:49:51 PM »
Just wanted to say thanks again to FishMich for the fishing package in Traverse City with Capt. Chris.  Turns out that this was the last fishing experience I will ever be able to enjoy with my wife.  She passed away Nov. 20, she was 40 years old.  Jodi was battling illness for a long time and the lord finally decided to end her pain.  Thanks for the experience I got to share with her.

Tournaments / NLWC Tournament, Burt Lake
« on: September 18, 2014, 06:14:48 AM »
The NLWC will hold it's final event of the year on Saturday, Sept. 27.  We will be launching out of Maple Bay on Burt Lake.  The entire Inland Waterway is in play but typically all boats will stay in Burt.  Forecast is for rain and gusts up to 27 mph.  Going to be tough weatherwise.

Upper Peninsula Fishing / Pink Salmon
« on: September 13, 2014, 12:49:12 PM »
Lots of pinks by the Cloverland Powerhouse.  Most guys are casting pink Swedish Pimples and doing well.  I painted a beat up bladebait pink and gave it a try.  Caught 6 in half an hour.  Everyone wanted to see what I was using and asked where I got it and if they could buy the one I had.  Had to tell them NO.  The bait it a prototype that is not on the market.  The paint job was simply nail polish.  Going to try a few unpainted baits to see if its the color and vibration thats the trigger or if it's vibration alone.  I've never painted them for walleyes, just plain lead and either a gold or silver blank.

General Fishing / Northern Adventures/Capt. Chris
« on: September 03, 2014, 12:56:13 PM »
My wife and I would like to say Thanks to Karl (FishMich) and Captain Chris Noffsinger of Northern Adventures Fishing and Guide Service.  We had a great time this weekend, it was well worth the trip!

Fishing with Chris was like fishing with an old friend.  We had alot to talk about as we are both tournament anglers.  Even though we target different species we have been on quite a few of the same bodies of water.  It was fun to discuss different experiences and techniques we each use to target our fish.  We also learned that both of us have served our country and we were able to spend time trashing each others branch of service with him being Army and myself being a Marine.

The fishing was nothing short of incredible.  Chris knows his stuff and we were on fish quickly.  With a more than comfortable and very clean boat and top notch equipment we caught fish non stop all morning.  During a few periods of the morning all of us were catching bass on every cast.  There were more doubles than I could count and Chris said he quit counting fish after we had boated over 40.  The end of the morning estimate was 80 smallies plus or minus a few.  If the previous days storms hadn't moved the fish a bit his bet was we could have boated over 100.  I have no doubt.

Again thanks Chris for the learning experience and new found friendship.  Thanks again Karl for making this all happen and it was great to finally meet ya!

Folks, Chris will be giving away a fishing vacation when his page hits 2000 likes.  Be sure to like his page and help a great guy out.  You may even win this trip, you won't regret the effort!

General Fishing / Fish Cam
« on: August 26, 2014, 04:20:14 PM »
Not sure if it has been mentioned before but LSSU has a camera submerged behing the Cloverland Electric Hydro Plant.  It streams live video.  Kinda neat to see the salmon swimming around.  Mostly atlantics right now but I've also seen walleye, whitefish and a few pinks.  Just Google LSSU Fish Cam and it should give you a link.

Upper Peninsula Fishing / St. Mary's River

Finally had some decent weather although nearly dead calm is never good for walleyes.  Water temps were now 61 to 62 degrees in the shipping channel.  Managed to find some fish after a long search.  Boated 13 in an hour and a half and not one hit the 15" mark.  On the positive side they were all very healthy and fat little guys all in the 14 to 14 3/4" range.  Tried several colors but the fish wanted spinners with blue or purple beads and blue/white or purple/white blades.
